Advancement Program
Personal advancement is one of the core methods of the Royal Rangers program. As boys grow through their involvement in rangers they will encounter many opportunities for advancement. Each age group in Royal Rangers provides an advancement trail that is both challenging and rewarding to boys. Click on the tabs to learn more about the advancement opportunities in each Royal Rangers group. Expedition Rangers Advancement TrailThe focus of the Advancement Trail is to help boys develop into young men who have the skills to make good sound decisions, who have strong moral character, who exemplify leadership skills, and most important, who are founded in the Word of God. A Royal Ranger in grades nine through twelve can earn any of the medals in the Expedition Rangers program. The advancement levels offered are merit-driven. To complete each advancement level-Questor, Adventurer, Voyager, Discoverer, Navigator, and Achievement Medal-each Ranger must earn the required merits and complete the required number of Spirit Challenge lessons. The Expedition Rangers Handbook features a chart designed to lead each Ranger along the Advancement Trail.
There are more than one hundred silver merits available for Expedition Rangers. Many of these merits are included in the Expedition Rangers Workbook where the requirements are explained for those merits. Patches or certificates and advancement pins are earned upon successful completion of requirements (depending on merit). The patches and pins may be worn on the Expedition Rangers uniform. Expedition, Adventure, and Discovery Rangers can earn silver merits. However, a merit may be used to satisfy the requirements for only one medal. For example, if the Ranger earned the Auto Mechanics merit as an optional merit for the his Gold Medal of Achievement (GMA), then it will NOT apply to his Achievement Medal in Expedition Rangers. If he earned the Introduction to Airplanes Merit as an Adventure Ranger, he should not use it as an additional merit for the GMA because it is a required merit for the Expedition Air Rangers program.
